The project is based on selecting a case study (quality problem) from the real world (preferably from your company), then apply one of the quality tools covered in this course to analyze and improve the quality of your system.
The aim is to allow you to connect between the theoretical and practical aspects and to learn and improve your research skills.
Examples of the quality topics include, but are not limited to, the following:
Tools of quality
Failure Modes and Effects Analysis
Statistically based quality improvement for variables or attributes
Six sigma
Quality engineering in production systems ( Taguchi )
Process design, improvement, and optimization using statistical models
Lean tools
Designing Quality services
Quality in product and process design QFD 1.
Report Contents:
You are required to apply the techniques (covered in this course / or any other technique) over a case study that are interested with and to come out with a suitable solution.
Submit a formal report that includes the following components:
Coverage:
Table of contents: Includes main headings & subheading with the page numbers of the right hand side Executive Summary: It contains few paragraphs that summarize the study, the methodology, and the main results.
The assumptions and limitations. T
he problem/ opportunity that the study will address or Literature Review: Review of state-of-the-art relevant papers to your topic.
For simplicity, search for recent articles ( 2015 onwards) and cite them in the references section. (http://scholar.google. Methodology: Describe quality improvement steps. What techniques are used for the analysis and what statistical software ( if any) is used.
Analysis and Results:
State the results of the analysis with a brief discussion of each stated result.
Explain tables, figures, and the findings.
Conclusions and Recommendations: Provide a discussion of the results as whole and state the main conclusions. The conclusions should be based on results of the analysis. Draw recommendations that are relevant to the research problem. Be creative! In this report there are no limitations to creativity. Mention whatever you think is a good recommendation (but should be based on your results!). References: You can use the following format: For journals: Last name of 1st author, his first name, first name of second author then his last name (year of publication), " Title of article, " Journal name, issue number, pages. For books: Last name of 1st author, his first name, first name of second author then his last name (year of publication), " Title of article, " publisher, edition number.
