- Suggest what relevant services you would like to refer the client to, explaining why.
- Explain how you will monitor and review the effectiveness of the work and / or services you provide to this client.

Scenario 1: JOHN, 18
John is 18 years old and lives in a small, close-knit family environment in Melbourne. His family are all practising Christians, which he states influences his views on morality and marriage. John lives in a diverse, multicultural area and some of his friends have emigrated from other countries. They share their favourite music and films with him, which exposes him to a wider range of cultural influences. Some of his friends have also introduced John to alternative therapies, as he states he often feels nauseous and occasionally gets headaches. John is in his first year at university studying architecture and adopts the values and principles of lecturers he admires.
John's GP has referred him to you for treatment. The GP states in the referral that he has diagnosed John with depression and anxiety. There is also a question around potential substance use, possibly cannabis or cocaine. At John's first appointment with you, he is observed to be resistant and reluctant to engage. He often mentions that "his friends" will help him out.
Scenario 2: MARY, A MOTHER OF FOUR
Mary is a mother of four children between the ages of 2 months and 6 years old. She lives in a nice family home in the suburbs of Melbourne; however, she does not leave the house much as she is always looking after her children and their needs.
Mary's husband Tony is a builder; Mary states he is a "traditional" man and their European culture states that "women must stay at home and rear the children whilst your husband goes out to work". Mary has had constant back pain for the past few years, which she states has increased in severity since her first pregnancy, and gradually worsened with each pregnancy. She further states her back pain is getting more severe as time progresses.
Mary has been referred to you by her GP, referral states stress and anxiety as the main issues. At the initial appointment, Mary states she has not had time to get her back checked out due to lack of time away from children; Mary is observed to commence crying when speaking of seeking support from her husband and/or their families.
Scenario 3: SAMUEL, 25
Samuel is a 25-year-old male from a religious background that does not believe in health care. He is also from a non-English speaking background and has very limited skills in the English language.
Although Samuel has had a severe stomach-ache for the past month, he is determined not to seek any medical assistance. He attends an appointment with you, accompanied by his tutor from the local community house learning centre. Samuel is observed to be reluctant to be in the appointment. The tutor is observed to be concerned and worried over Samuel's wellbeing.
The tutor informs you that Samuel is living in extremely overcrowded conditions with 10 other people in a 2-bedroom flat and she feels concerned that Samuel will face eviction shortly. The tutor states to you she will interpret for Samuel and that there "is no need to phone the interpreter services".
