The purpose of the project is to demonstrate using an article or a podcast, that you can understand and explain everyday events using macroeconomic concepts. Assume your audience is someone with no prior knowledge or understanding of economic concepts. In other words, you will switch from your role of student to the role of teacher. For this project, you will choose a recent article or podcast from a reputable source (New York Times, The Economist, NPR, etc.) related to the one of the macroeconomic concepts that we cover in this course. The article/podcast must be published within the past 6 months in order to be considered recent. Refer to the Media Bias Chart ( to check the reliability and bias of the source you are using. You can present your project in any format that you choose: . PowerPoint with voiceover (8-10 slides, 5 minute maximum length) . VoiceThread presentation (8-10 slides, 5 minute maximum length) . Sway Infographic . Video submission (5 minute maximum length) . Written Paper (no longer than 2 pages, double-spaced, not including images) In my experience, students have really enjoyed VoiceThread. If you haven't used VoiceThread before, don't be intimidated, it is very user- friendly and I am here to help if you need it! If you are considering VoiceThread, read about how to use VoiceThread and refer to the assignment specifications for VoiceThread below. Have an idea that isn't listed here? Run it by me! Would you like me to provide feedback on your submission before turning it in? After comparing your submission with the rubric to confirm that you have included all required elements, send your completed project to me, no later than Sunday, March 5th before 11 pm. I will offer you feedback. What To Include The idea behind this assignment is for you to demonstrate a connection between real-world events and what you have learned in our class and present your analysis in a way that someone who is unfamiliar with economics would understand. This may require providing some definitions, clear concept identification, and an informal tone. Since this is a Principles of Macroeconomics class, your media selection and subject matter should be related to macroeconomic concepts. Concepts may include GDP, unemployment, business cycles, inflation, economic growth, monetary and/or fiscal policy. There are four main elements that you will want to include. 1. Briefly summarize the article/podcast. 2. Explain how the article/podcast is related to our course. This is where you will demonstrate an ability to identify the concepts that we are learning in our course within the context of your selection. 3. Provide a critical analysis of the content based on what you have learned in Econ 1A. This is the section where you will demonstrate knowledge of the material that we have covered. You will include two graphs here to support your analysis. 4. Follow suggested flow: Required Elements Element and Description Introduction of Media Selection: Name the author, title of media, date the media was published. Identify and define the economic concept covered in your selection. This is what you will focus your analysis on. Summary: Briefly communicate the most important information within your media source using your own words. Synthesis With Course Material: explain the economic concept to your audience. Check your explanation with our course notes or the online text to ensure you are on the right track. Consider how this economic concept explains the real-world situation covered within your media source. Remember, you are the teacher, so provide background information and clarifying definitions if needed. Supporting Graph (can be included anywhere within the project): using FRED, create and include a graph that demonstrates trends related to the economic concept you are focusing onRequired Elements Element and Description Introduction of Media Selection: Name the author, title of media, date the media was published.
