The purpose of this assessment is to encourage you to find, critically analyse and evaluate

seven academic papers on a topic of your choice related to managing people and organisations

considering the ethical and social consequences. Specifically, you are expected to compare,

contrast and coalesce their contents to present your interpretations of the work published to

date in that specific area of research.

Instructions

You will produce a video presentation that explores a workplace issue, opportunity, or challenge

that you are currently facing or are interested in related to managing people and organisations.

As part of this, you are required to review 7 academic/scholarly articles on the topic. Your

presentation will be structured accordingly.

Part 1: Introduce the workplace issue, challenge or opportunity including the context - describe

and detail it. (approx. 2 minutes).

Part 2: Articulate the search strategy you used to find scientific literature (approx. 1 minute).

Specify the database, the search terms, and the logic you used. See some stipulations below:

f you are focusing on a public sector issue, please only draw articles from the following

journals:

Public Administration Review

Australian Journal of Public Administration

Public Management Review

Review of Performance in Public Administration

If you are focusing on a corporate or private sector issue, you may only draw from the following

journals:

Australian Journal of Management

the British Journal of Management

the Academy of Management Journal

the Journal of Management and Organization

If your issue is specific to the non-for-profit context, please only draw articles from the

following journals:

Journal of Management and Organization

the Non-profit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly.

Part 3: Give a brief, verbal (one sentence each) appraisal of the papers you review (approx. 1

minute). What did they say? How robust were they?

Part 4: Based on your reading of the 7 articles, what high-level principles/ assumptions/

dynamics explain why this issue is occurring in workplaces. And detail (based on the literature)

what the likely (broader) effects are (approx. 2 minutes)

Part 5: Based on your reading (i.e., based on the evidence), provide a set of recommendations

for workplaces considering the ethical and social consequences, and note from where you have

drawn these recommendations (approx. 1.5 minutes).

Presentation guidelines

You can use any screen recording software you like, but it must be uploaded and submitted via

the Media upload function. While it is desired that your communication and presentation style

is polished, it does not need to be flawless. Focus on delivering your ideas in a professional,

well-enunciated tone and should the odd word 'stumble' occur - disregard this and continue.

Note: You must be visible in the video.
