The purpose of this assignment is to get you thinking about organizational behaviour and how it applies to situations and events outside of the classroom. For this assignment, take one of the main concepts presented in the lectures and apply them to a newspaper article. Examples of course content include, but is not limited to: Cognitive dissonance theory, Expectancy theory, Job Characteristics Model, Problems with group decision making, Rational choice vs. Bounded Rationality, etc.

When choosing your article, be sure that it has enough substance so you can analyze it using one of the course concepts. This assignment reflects your ability to take a concept learned in class and apply it to events outside of the classroom. You canonly use a newspaper article.Videos,blogs, research articles etc will not be accepted for the assignment.Reflect on the following questions to help you determine if your article is a good fit for this assignment:

1. How appropriate is the article? Is the article meaningful and substantial event, issue, or story? The article/situation doesn't have to be about business. It could be anything that interests you (sports, music, etc.) as long as the events or content of the article can be better explained using one of the theories from the course.
2. How appropriate is the concept that you chose (chose only one concept? Does it relate? Is it the correct concept? How well did you apply the concept to the events in the article? Were you able to take specific events from the article and explain them using the concept? How does the concept provide insight into what happened?
3. This is the core of the assignment - can you show that you understand the content from the course? Are you able to take the concept and apply it to something in the real world? This is what learning is all about, and it's a step beyond memorizing and repeating notes on a final.

This is not like a case - you do not provide alternative solutions and pick a recommendation. You are not "solving a problem." Instead, you just need to be able to explain what happened using a concept from class. 'Explain' means providing some kind of insight or reflection into the article using the concept and supported by research. When you are choosing your course concept read the textbook and module, dditional research for the concept to make sure that it is the right concept to explain what happened in your article.

Specific Guidelines for Submissions

• Submissions must be typed (12-point, (not 1.5), use one-inch page margins, and pages numbered.
• Submissions should be in length (excluding the. Five pages is the maximum.
• APA Referencing system (you will need to include a see below for more information
• Include two external resources to support your concept you are using from the course. These external references should be research articles that supports your concept you have chosen for this paper. These external resources cannot be additional articles that talk about the event or situation
• Hand your paper in via blackboard.
• Include a copy of the article when you hand in your paper

Referencing

All material used (your textbook, article and other materials) must be correctly cited and referenced, using the APA Referencing system which includes

• In-text citations in the body of the essay
• A reference list as the last page of your assignment
• In-text citations and reference list are not counted in the page count
• Material that has not been referenced correctly may be considered to be plagiarized, and as such may be penalized.

Past challenges

• Students choose a concept that does not reflect the events in the article: make sure you understand the course concept well. Read and do additional research to make sure you have the right fit
• Referencing: Be sure to cite all material, including anytime you reference your article
• Can't find an article: there are examples in the newspaper, magazines, etc daily. You are trying to explain the events of the article through the lens of organizational behaviour. Understanding the different applications of course content is important
• The right article: newspapers or magazines article. There are a lot of options. Do not use case studies or research articles or videos.It must be an article. If the article states the course concept, it is not the right article. This is your opportunity to reflect the knowledge and application of the course.
• Read the instructions: Be sure to read and follow all of the instructions included.
