The purpose of this debate is to argue whether or not you believe that the US should suspend or significantly reduce the use of its H1B visa program. Unlike other visa programs, the H1B operates on a lottery system - as you know from the readings. The purpose of the program is to allow company to hire high-skilled STEM based employees globally. However, as you have also seen from the readings, the conditions that these works arrive to is not always ideal. Further, the program operates such that if a company is willing to sponsor an employee, the employee then goes into the lottery system with no guarantee of visa even if all requirements are met. From the local community perspective, of course the issue of job-loss again arises. Thus, there are many things to consider: the equity of the program, the impact on immigrants, the impact on the local community, etc.
