The purpose of this last item is to prepare you to see whether FraidyRat shows an immediate shock deficit, which is an experiment we will do in lab. Here we want to do an experiment to see whether, as in real rats there is no immediate shock deficit for cued fear conditioning. There are various ways to set up short schedules to find this out. We will use the ones figured below, which will also provide a model for the experiments we will do in lab on context fear conditioning. Two schedules are shown; one for doing a conditioning trial at the start of a session in previously unfamiliar context A and the other for doing a conditioning trial 60 seconds after introduction into the same context. We have inserted a days rest between one session and the next so that the running around that is caused by the US is all over by the start of the second session. We control the time before the CS and US by adjusting the extra time at the start of each session to be either 1 sec. or 60 sec
