1. (20 points) Indifference Curves For this problem you'll have to draw indifference curves for different types of consumers and goods. Please draw the indifference curves for each question on separate graphs and label them correctly. Some items require you to also provide an explanation, don't forget to do so! (a) (5 points) Mr. Inoa receives the same utility for an additional unit of Coke than an additional unit of Pepsi. Represent the quantity of Coke in the vertical axis and the quantity of Pepsi in the horizontal axis. What is Mr. Inoa's marginal rate of substitution (MRSCoke, Pepsi)? (b) (5 points) Mrs. Villaman loves to have plantains and eggs for dinner. She is very particular about the proportion of plantains to eggs that she enjoys. Her utility will only increase if, for each additional plantain, she gets two eggs; any other proportion means that she won't have the additional plantains/eggs. Draw the quantity of Plantains in the vertical axis and the quantity Eggs in the horizontal axis. From the point of view of Mrs. Villaman. Are Plantains and Eggs complements or substitutes? (c) (5 points) Mr. Aquino is lactose intolerant and drinking milk makes him sick. Draw an indifference curve for Mr. Aquino when the only two drink alternatives are Milk (vertical axis) and Orange Juice (horizontal axis). Identify the region in which Mr. Aquino is better-off and the region in which Mr. Aquino is worse-off. (d) (5 points) For this part you'll have to draw a pair of indifference curves on the same graph. Lucas and Lucia enjoy cookies and ice-cream. Lucas, relative to Lucia, likes cookies more than ice-cream. Draw the indifference curves with Cookies on the vertical axis and Ice Cream on the horizontal axis
