I have some experience with researching and presenting a change plan in my current career. Each year, supervisors at my production plant are assigned a cost savings project. We must identify an area of waste and create a cost savings plan to address the issue. The project can focus on material, labor, or time savings; or some combination of the three. The project must have trackable costs that can be monitored through our cost accounting department or the industrial engineer. The projects are presented to the plant manager and his staff, and they select best three for implementation. I think the greatest challenge for this course is being able to focus on a clear, attainable topic when researching potential changes for our chosen company. 'When researching a company, there are a broad range of potential issues that can be addressed, and it is easy to get sidetracked on other factors that are not relevant to the key topic. This makes the research process more cumbersome and reduces the effectiveness of your proposal. The real challenge is being able to carefully analyze your research material and select the sources that best support your hypothesis while discarding the extraneous information. Students tend to focus on feedback from their professor, but in the business world your written documents and presentations are judged by your superiors, your peers, and your subordinates.
