Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd., headquartered in Shenzhen, Guangdong, is a Chinese multinational technology company. It is a telecommunications and consumer electronics company that designs, develops, and sells equipment. It is best renowned, though, for producing high-end phones with appealing aesthetics and superior hardware features that compete with Samsung and Apple handsets. Teliasonera, a large Swedish multinational telecommunications corporation and mobile network operator, set out in 2009 to develop one of the world's first fourth-generation wireless networks in some of Scandinavia's most important and technologically advanced towns.

TeliaSonera chose a daring and surprising builder for Oslo, Norway: Huawei, a Chinese corporation with a limited footprint outside of China and a few other emerging economies. Huawei is now the world's second-largest smartphone manufacturer, selling more phones than Apple and only being surpassed by Samsung. Huawei is unique in that no government agency or outside entity has any shares in the corporation. Only Huawei employees are eligible to join because it is a private firm owned entirely by its employees. This Chinese technology company has seen its fair share of ups and downs, successes and milestones throughout the years.

In 2012, Huawei formed a cloud computing partnership with customers in 33 countries, resulting in the creation of the world's largest desktop cloud, which is used by about 70,000 employees on a daily basis. Huawei has cooperated with over 700 cities and 228 Fortune Global 500 firms, 58 of which are Fortune 100 organisations, on digital transformation. Despite Huawei's history of technology theft, including the infamous example of stealing Cisco code for router software in the early 2000s, experts credit Ren (Huawei's founder) for turning the business into a research and development powerhouse from the start. Huawei has always denied any wrongdoing and continues to do so. Huawei has achieved technological advancements that no other firm in the world has been able to match to date. It has put its 5G technology to the test in both lower and higher frequencies (for enhanced coverage) (better for high data speeds).

It unveiled its own in-house-designed chipset and devices in early 2019, paving the way for 5G to become a reality. The company claims to have signed 30 contracts for 5G network construction around the world, with dozens more on the verge of doing so. However, Huawei's chairman projected that the year 2020 will be "tough," and there have been and will continue to be obstacles. The US continues to put pressure on allies to exclude the company from their 5G wireless networks. The United Kingdom banned Huawei from its 5G infrastructure in July 2 2020, declaring that the company's equipment must be removed by 2027, a decision that it deemed "disappointing" as 5G becomes more prevalent.

Despite this, the business is the world's second-largest smartphone manufacturer, trailing only Samsung of South Korea. The company is responsible for practically every aspect of 5G technology, including the smartphone, which is a need in today's world. Experts believe the company may have an advantage in bringing 5G goods to market faster by creating chipsets and the handsets that communicate with them. Concerns over it's ties to the Chinese government, as well as fears that its technology could be used to eavesdrop on other countries and businesses, have been the central issue. It is for this reason that the United States banned the use of Huawei networking equipment in 2012. However, if you thought Apple's cellphones are the most popular, you'll be startled to learn that Huawei smartphones are in more people's hands than iPhones.

That fact is undeniably correct. Huawei phones are fantastic. The P20 Pro, a recent Huawei model, was hailed as having one of the best cameras of any smartphone, with some even claiming that it outperformed the iPhone X and Google Pixel. Huawei may be barred from participating in India's 5G network rollout, just months after being granted permission to take part in the country's 5G testing.

It comes after India's government said that 59 Chinese apps, including TikTok and WeChat, will be blocked, citing national security concerns. "The China-India dispute, compounded with the economic stress caused by the (coronavirus) pandemic, has likely forced the government to consider a strategy similar to the United States to potentially retaliate in a way that would most harm China," Neil Shah, research director at Counterpoint Research, told CNBC.

Huawei executives have started mocking Trump's claims that the US is slipping behind in 5G technology. "The United States is trailing behind," Guo Ping, Huawei's rotating chairman, told reporters earlier this year. "His message is simple and straightforward." The company was effectively barred from US communications networks in May of 2019 as a result of an executive order by President Donald Trump. The order was renewed until 2021 by Trump a year later.

Despite the charges and constraints, the company has grown to become the world's largest telecom equipment business in less than a decade, with more than $107 billion in revenue from operations in more than 170 countries and allegedly billions of dollars in backing from the Chinese government. It now has a 29 per cent share of the worldwide telecom equipment market.
