The Role of Emotions in Conflict Escalation Kumar is a report writer and spent two weeks on writing a report requested by his new manager Mr. John. Once, Kumar completed the report and sent it to his manager, the manager (Mr. John) printed out and distributed during the staff meeting to everybody and once Omar saw the report, he was shocked. Because on the front page, he saw John’s name as author. His name didn’t appear in any place in the report. When the meeting ended, Kumar requested the manager if they could talk later about the report. They agreed to meet at 1:30. During the meeting, Kumar told Mr. John that he wanted to understand why his name was removed from the front page of the report. “I really need explanation,” he said. Mr. John started calmly: “I’ve always worked in a system where the manager’s name appeared as the sole author. It’s the proper procedure. This is a delegated task; I’m the person in charge.” As she continued, Kumar got angry and said this is not fair at all, this is my work, not yours, his voice went up, and he sounded more and more emotional, I deserve credit for my work.”

Mr. John, the manager also got angry and said it was a delegated task and you are paid for, so there is no need to put your name on it. It is Ridiculous!!! When Kumar heard this, he got very upset and said to Mr. John, “This isn’t working, you are ridiculous by copying my work and putting your name on it. He went out, submitted his resignation and decided to leave the organization.”
