The Romanian Government has recently introduced a system of import licenses regarding the import of sausages into Romania. Any sausages with a fat content of more than 20% are refused a license under their scheme. The Romanian government insists that this is necessary in order to bring down the cholesterol levels of its citizens. Monsieur Glutton, the French Agriculture Minister, is incensed at the licensing scheme and believes it is nothing more than a Romanian ruse to exclude the better but fatter French sausages from the Romanian market. When the French government raises this matter with the Commission, it is told that with the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, it may be better to leave this matter to next year when the EU as a whole is more settled.

Advise the French Government as to the possible legal remedies open to it under the EU Treaties.
