The SARA model is a classic problem-solving approach for police management. You will be using it for this week's discussion.
Scenario: Image you are the Chief of Police for IVC and you are having a command meeting with your staff. One month ago, you were told by the IVC president that because of overall parking issues and complaints, as well as, student homeless problems, a new policy was enacted. Effective immediately parking on all IVC lots are now FREE and open 24/7. Over the past month issues have arisen. RV's and Vans are now parked on IVC property overnight, tailgate type parties have been occurring with alcohol and drug use in the area, crime is up. However, in a positive way much needed economic relief has also occurred for students. Using what you have learned with regards to overall COP and using the below SARA model steps what are you and your staff going to do? How are you going to communicate your response?
I also attached the Herman Goldstein Problem Oriented Policing 2018 winner (Chula Vista PD) using the SARA model as an agency example. Of course, you are not expected to produce this type of report, however I wanted you see what is looks like in real life.
