The section of pipework illustrated in the figure below has been fabricated from cement mortar lined mild steel for installation in a water supply system. When installed, the section will be aligned in the horizontal plane. Water (at standard conditions) is passing through the pipework at steady state. The pipework carries a volume flow rate of 75 l/s, and the gauge pressure head at the inlet is 45.0 m (H2O). The pipe diameter is constant downstream of the expansion. There is a total of 9.0 metres of 200 mm straight pipe, and 1.25 metres of 150 mm straight pipe in the pipework section. (b) Calculate the gauge pressure (in Pa) at the outlet. For the purposes of this calculation, Straight pipe losses in the pipe may not be neglected. (c) Pipework supports are to be designed to manage the forces on the pipework system. Determine the magnitude and direction of the net force in the horizontal (X1-X2 plane) required to hold the section of pipework in place (in Newtons).
