The skills necessary for managing an organization or department can be placed in three categories: conceptual, human, and technical. Although the degree of each skill varies, managers must possess some skill in each of these important areas to perform effectively. Technical skills include specialized knowledge, analytical ability, and the competent use of tools and techniques to solve problems in that specific discipline. Human skills include building relationships, motivating people, communication skills, and conflict resolution.
