The SMART objective is that the Northeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging (NEI3A) meal program will provide monthly educational workshops for older adults and families, reaching a minimum of 1,500 participants in the 18-county region by the end of the calendar year. NEI3A helps to meet the needs of adults 65 and older. They provide workshops on nutritional education, fall prevention, support services, respite care, and transitional coaching. The program will track the number of attendees and provide surveys about the workshop. The meal program and other activities at the centers declined after the pandemic, mainly due to centers being closed during the pandemic and clients not recovering from the virus. The centers have re-opened, but the meals have not bounced back. NEI3A changed meal vendors in January because of the poor meal quality from the previous vendor. The meal program aims to assist NEI3A staff in educating older adults and families by utilizing the center for morning workshops and the annual program questionnaires with demographic information and yes or no questions to determine if other services are needed (NEI3A, 2024). There is knowledge of the meal program and some workshops because of elderly parents and being part of the Council On Aging (COA) for the past four years. The COA provides volunteers to serve meals, work at the front desk, and pass out meal and activity calendars. On more than one occasion, meal complaints were lodged with NEI3A against the old meal
