The state of Washington has a formula that determines the treatment of juveniles who are arrested. Based on past criminal history, school achievement, current charge, and other factors, each teenager is given a score. The formula and score are only available to the judge. If the score is < 40, the teenager must be sent home under parental supervision (they may also have to attend some classes or drug treatment but they are at home). If the score is 40 or more, they get 3 months in juvenile detention. If you followed subsequent criminal history of these teenagers 3+ months after offending (so that they were all able to offend) and compared a group that scored just under 40 and were released with a group scoring just over 40 who were held, which group would offend more? Why?
