The state of Wyoming manages several state parks. Over the last few years Wyoming has seen an increase in non-native insects which are infecting many of the trees in their state parks. This problem has been particularly bad in one park that covers an area of 150 square miles. In order to save the integrity of the forest land, elimination of this foreign pest is a must. The state has two options to exterminate these insects, methods A and B. Method A is 70% effective and will cost $28,000 per square mile. Method B is 85% effective at a cost of $36,000 per square mile.

1. Wyoming receives permission from the Department of the Interior to attempt to exterminate the non-native species by whatever manner is most effective. The full cost of the extermination will be paid for by a grant from the Department of the Interior. Which method should Wyoming choose? Why?
