The study of semantics invites us to consider how words and sentences take on meaning. Your text discusses one theory that a word could have meaning based on its reference, but acknowledges that this theory does not always account for the full meaning of some words. You also read in text about sense, when there is no specific reference for a word although it has meaning. 

In the Watch item for this week you will review a comedy routine. Look out for places where reference and sense contribute to the humor of the routine. Then choose one part of the comedy routine and comment on an aspect of King's use of language that generates laughter by the audience. Your post should identify and elaborate on at least one concept from the semantics chapter that has been put to use in this routine.
