The system below is operated 24/7 in some large oil refineries. The average salary of a worker is $55,000.00 CAD per year. An electrically driven high-power dissipating module called EDPM is operated by one operator and is cooled using the cooling system CS described below. In case of an emergency, the EDPM can be shut off from the emergency button in the control room. For safety reasons, the control room is located 100m away from the EDPM. The HDM shut-down process, once initiated, takes approximately 1 minute. The system is designed for 30 years useful life. The cooling liquid is pumped by the CS OUT into the EDPM. Note that EDPM is not represented on the schematic below. For reference, CS is used to represent the combination of the 3 valves, 3 pumps and one monitoring unit, as presented below. On the extreme left, the cooling liquid tank (CLT) is represented. The CLT is collecting the high temperature cooling liquid coming from EDPM, is cooling it, and is supplying it to the CS.
