The Task

In 1997, Whiteman conducted an ethnography of a Cree tallyman's management practices in James Bay, Canada to understand indigenous management practices and their intricate links with nature (Whiteman and Cooper, 2000).

Sinha and Bathini (2019) used a case study approach involving observations, documents, and interviews at an Indian fast-food outlet to study the mimicry of and resistance to work-practices, otherwise more commonly associated with large US fast-food companies.

Critically evaluate the methodological and analytical strategies and techniques used by Whiteman and Cooper (2000) and Sinha and Bathini (2019).

What are some of the ethical issues involved in data collection, analysis, and writing?

Are there any issues around the representation of individuals, groups, and societies from whom the data has been collected?

Are the findings and/or contributions claimed by the authors justified by their methodology and analysis? Are they over-reaching in terms of the claims they make?

Are the authors reflexive about their own positionality and locations in analysing and

writing?

Your evaluation should conclude with a 500-word statement setting out the comparative methodological and analytical strengths and weaknesses of the two papers. You should also set out which other methodological, analytical, and writing strategies could have helped the authors overcome these weaknesses.
