The term 'management information systems' has several popular meanings. Many writers use the term as a synonym for 'information systems'. In this text we use MIS to describe a broad class of IS, the goal of which is to provide information on and support for decision-making by managers. Management information systems support the decision-making needs at the different managerial levels.
