The three approaches to internal award are known as job based approach, individual based approach, and performance based approach. I am most familiar with working in a non profit health care facility for geriatrics. Working in this business model we use more of the individual based approach. We solely rely on government reimbursements with high regulations that make staffing and retention very difficult. With that being said our staff will often times wear many hats to help keep us afloat. For example I work in the Human Resources Department but have been cross trained to help in Social Services, Admissions, and Billing. Our facility looks at the value our staff brings to the table with the willingness to go above and beyond. So with the attributes recognizing the employees for their contributions and efforts we are rewarded for the "team effort" not only looking for the checked boxed that our job description has been met (which it is, just a few more added to it)
