The topic my colleague chose is Treatment Centers and would collect data on the success rate and statistics of treatment centers. How she would address uncertainty is by showing healthcare systems data relating to SUD-related treatment, hospitalizations, health outcomes, and deaths. She would also show them mental healthcare provider data related to medication, counseling, and treatment outcomes. Also, she will make sure statistics are relatable to a diversity of people by showing the crime rate created by those who suffer from SUD and how their rates significantly decreased and/ or became nonexistent. Two things she will be cautious about when collecting data are making sure that my sources are accredited sources and using up-to-date information.
She finds it important to collect this data because SUD is a public social issue that hinders communities. There is a significant amount of crime that is committed specifically by individuals who suffer from substance abuse and if we were to rehabilitate those individuals then the crime rate would decrease. Our jails and prisons are overflooded with individuals who suffer from SUD as well and rehabilitate those to make room for those more deserving.
- Describe one factor she did not discuss that you feel should be addressed to avoid promoting what Chalabi would deem to be a "bad statistic".
- Justify why you think this is a crucial aspect to consider.
