The topic that I chose to talk about is dangerous working conditions. From my experience dangerous working conditions can be people using equipment that they are not certified to be using that can risk either there or other people's lives. One dangerous working condition which I researched happened in Gainesville, Georgia. This happened in January on a Thursday morning when a nitrogen line ruptured inside Foundation Food Group chicken processing plant. Now liquid Nitrogen is regularly used to freeze chicken after it has been processed. Six people lost their lives and eleven others were hospitalized due to nitrogen leak. This plant in Georgia had been cited by (OSHA) four times in the past four years. (OSHA) issued infractions against the plant in Georgia for unsafe machinery which caused several finger amputations, and for lack of both eye and face protection. In this environment ethics and morality plays a huge role in informing the decision making process. Following the simple safety protocols that were put in place would've saved many people's lives. The Whistleblower Act does intersect tremendously with ethical standards in the workplace. The whistleblower does what no one else will to save coworkers who might be in trouble by possibly putting themselves in harm's way. Although Whistleblowing may be seen in a dark light and they might be seen as a "rat" or "snitch".
