The two-sided debate regarding the adequacy of police responses to intimate partner violence (IPV) against women revolves around differing perspectives on the effectiveness of law enforcement efforts in addressing this complex issue. However, there is ongoing debate about the adequacy of police responses to IPV. This paper will explore this issue further, focusing on how legal frameworks regulate police responses, the role of dedicated teams and officers in handling IPV crimes, and the collaboration between agencies, social services, and community groups in assisting victims (Government of Canada, 2023). On one side of the debate are those who argue that police responses to IPV are inadequate, often failing to provide sufficient protection and support to victims. Conversely, proponents of the opposing view contend that police responses are appropriate given the challenges and complexities inherent in IPV cases.
