The US Government fights the use of drugs in a variety of ways including spraying crops with chemicals, fining and imprisoning dealers and users, confiscating drug-transporting vehicles, etc. Which market failure motivates the government to interfere with the illegal drug market: lack of competition, externalities, public goods, or income inequality? Why does the government do this?
