The work environment at the White Bead Company was literally awful. It was such a stressful and toxic work environment. The manager did not encourage any of the workers, not even on the training day. The manager called out the "poorly working" workers and exalted the "higher-performance" workers. There was no room for error and you could only ask questions on the training day, which they counted as a working day. The manager even scolded them when they wouldn't reach their quota for the day. The three people who remained due to their "good performance" were awarded merit increases but also had to do double the work because the other four workers who were let go which is unfair.
"Quality Inspection System enables proofreaders to compare Master and Sample files, both digital and printed, to automatically detect any differences between the two" (Caticchio, 2021). This system allows proofreaders to ensure that no errors have been created as files are disbursed. The advantages of Quality Inspection Systems are: (1) faster project turnaround time, (2) exponential business growth due to the ability to complete projects on time, (3) cost savings because the system will be able to catch errors if detected on labels or packaging before the product is released, therefore preventing a recall or further damage and (4) shorten approval cycles, (Caticchio, 2021). The disadvantages of Quality Inspection Systems are: (1) it can be costly for companies, (2) ongoing evaluation requirements to ensure its effectiveness every year, (3) difficult to understand, (4) lack of training by the organization for their employees, thus diminishing the importance of the system (5) unclear benefits (Kumar, 2024). The strategies that management tried in the Red Bead Experiment were not successful in improving workers' performance because they were scolded if they did not perform well. Instead of using the strategy to motivate the workers to improve, they were scolded and ultimately fired.
I experienced the same work environment as the White Bead Company when I first started working at the organization where I am now, but on a different team. The team lead was a micro-manager and was literally an awful person to work with. He would threaten anyone's job if something wasn't done when he wanted it to be done. He would also threaten your job if something wasn't done correctly. He never gave recognition or praise if you did well. How I would've improved this situation was by having weekly or bi-weekly one on one's with the team members to assess their week and in any areas where they may have shown a weakness, then I would inquire how I may be able to help them strengthen in that area. I would also ensure that my team members are properly trained and able to ask questions at any time.
