Describes situation in great detail . Theory X Manager Think about how assumptions perpetuate employee behavior. Attempt to recall a situation in which you had a Theory X manager/leader (can be a teacher, coach, boss, etc.). At the job that I worked at for a couple of years, I found my boss would blame his employees for his own mistakes. He would also blame you for others' mistakes. We always got along but it felt as if he thought his employees disliked their job and were not motivated to do things properly or the way he liked things to be done. Which was completely wrong, I loved the environment I was working in. He would never explain how he likes things to be done which made it difficult on our end as we kept constantly getting blamed for not doing things right. He seemed to always be checking in on me, like there was a camera watching my every move. It's like he was trying to catch me doing something I shouldn't do to try and put me down. I never knew what a Theory X or Y manager was, but now this all makes sense to me and it seems that lots of people could be "Theory X Managers" because all they think about is how us teenage kids have changed into unmotivated people who want to stay at home all day. This approach made me feel as if my boss thought we were all useless employees. He would always come into the shop with us. But, he never really worked with us. Instead, he would make a huge mess and leave. It seemed as if he expected us to know where he wanted things to go and that we were supposed to clean his mess up for him. True leaders, according to Follet's Theory, "create group power, rather than expressing personal power." In my eyes, it feels as if my boss was creating personal power with two of his employees. These employees worked there for 5+ years and they were the "managers." It seemed as if they were the favorites as they never had to do work. They always got the days off they wanted and put themselves before everyone else and my boss didn't see a problem with it. A boss in my opinion should create "group power." He has control of all of us, but he didn't make us all seem like a group. This made me feel like me and the other employees were not cared for as much even though we did all of the work. How did you respond to this managerial approach? I got this job because I was wanting to make money and gain a good connection with new people. I responded to this approach politely. The other employees and I noticed that we were not being treated fairly compared to the other two. We asked if things could change so we all felt treated the same. Going to work unmotivated didn't make me feel as good as going to work motivated. It felt like we were working below him. I can see a huge change in how I'm treated. At my current job I have a boss who seems like they're an employee there. It feels like I'm actually friends with them and I can work with them easily. This boss is a Theory Y Manager and he shows his employees that we have all his trust and he has all of ours. Explains, with supporting evidence why a Theory y manager is better than a Theory X manager
