There are many different norms that we must abide by in my workplace, but one in particular sticks out to me because everyone adheres to it despite the fact that we are not required to. If you've ever used a Chick-fil-A drive-through, you are aware of how incredibly long the lines may be. Even though our drive-through is quite lengthy and can accommodate many cars, we typically have staff outside taking orders using an iPad. Nevertheless, the lines can grow quite long. We ensure that we pull up cars in order to address that problem. In order to accommodate even more cars through the drive-through window and to give customers the impression that the line is moving quickly, we move the cars beyond the window all the way to a stop sign that we have at the end of the drive-through lane. Although it is taught to everyone to adhere to this norm, there is no formal law requiring us to do so. I think that because people are aware of the purpose of the rule, it is simpler for them to comprehend how important it is.
