There has been a steady rise in healthcare spending in relation to GDP. The U.S. spends more money on healthcare than any other developed nation. The U.S spends about 3.8 trillion dollars (about a 5th or 16.8 % of the U.S expenses) on healthcare every year as compared to the other high-income nations such as France, Germany, and Switzerland, whose spending represent a little over 10% of their GDP (OECD Health Statistics, 2021). Due to the financial crises in 2008 and COVID-19 in 2019, there were significant increases in healthcare spending to GDP as a response to these unexpected events
