There is a shortage of healthcare workers worldwide. Gender gaps are also a global issue, with 67% of healthcare workers being females. Despite women making up the majority of healthcare workers, they earn 24% less than their male counterparts do. Additionally, developing countries face much greater shortages than developed countries do. One region that is particularly impacted is Sub-Saharan Africa, which only has 3% of the global health workforce despite being faced with 25% of the global disease burden. Further proof of this worsened shortage in developing countries is seen in the ratio of doctors per population. In the United States, there are 25.6 doctors for every 10,000 people.
