There is a well-documented "healthy immigrant" effect, whereby recent immigrants are healthier than the Canadian population. Table SA1 provides some summary statistics from the Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS) for the year 2014. Each cell contains the proportion of respondents by immigrant type (Canadian born or Recent immigrant) within a given characteristic (health status, age-group, education level). Health status is measured by the hospital admission in the past 12 months.
