There is an old saying - "You never get a second chance to make a first impression." The same holds true for public speaking. Being able to draw the audience into your speech within the first few sentences is critical to success. Also important is leaving them with something to think about once a speech is over. These are called "attention getters" - how the speaker gets the attention of the audience and draws them in -- and "clinchers" - how the speaker concludes, or clinches, the speech.

• How did the speaker get your attention? What strategy(ies) did they use?
• How did the speaker conclude their speech? Was it successful? Why or why not?
