There is evidence that states the most effective treatment for restoring blood flow in the blocked coronary artery of a STEMI (ST elevation myocardial infarction) patient is balloon angioplasty. It is most effective if the patient has the balloon angioplasty started within 60 minutes of when they entered the emergency room doors (hence door to balloon). The data below reflects door to balloon time on 16 STEMI patients for the month of June and their length of stay in the CCU. Using this data, you are asking the questions: Is Door to Balloon time a factor in the STEMI patient's CCU length of stay? Is there a difference in age between patients who have a Door to Balloon time less than 60 minutes vs a Door to Balloon time greater than 60 minutes? 1. Enter the data into Excel. Run descriptive statistics on Age, Door to Balloon (D to B), and Length of Stay. Determine the percentages of Male and Female. 2. Determine if there is a correlation between age and D to B and Length of stay (hint, these 3 columns need to be next to each other so that they can all be selected at once). 3. Next split the data into 2 groups: the age and length of stay of those that had D to B times < 60 minutes and the age and length of stay of those that had D to B times > 60 minutes. Run a t-test Assuming Unequal variances between the length of stay of each group to see if there is a statistically significant difference. Run a t-test Assuming Unequal variances between the age of each group to see if there is a statistically significant difference. 4. Address all the points of the Grading Rubric by typing your responses into the Excel file (at the bottom of the page in Excel are little tabs that say sheet 1, sheet 2, etc. If you click on these a new page of excel opens, its like having pages in a notebook). Sex Age Door to Balloon Minutes CCU Length of Stay Days Patient 1 M 50 55 3 Patient 2 M 58 58 2 Patient 3 M 65 63 4 Patient 4 F 70 70 5 Patient 5 F 72 45 3 Patient 6 M 68 49 3 Patient 7 M 74 51 4 Patient 8 M 85 65 5 Patient 9 M 90 75 6 Patient 10 F 78 59 4 Patient 11 M 55 58 3 Patient 12 M 48 42 2 Patient 13 F 82 62 5 Patient 14 F 84 61 4 Patient 15 M 89 57 3 Patient 16 F 79 64 5
