You are a staff pharmacist in a retail pharmacy. The store owner, Rashid, is also a pharmacist and working alongside you today. You two get along and have a good personal relationship. Rashid openly talks about his childhood in a small village in Iraq. He is now a U.S. citizen, but remembers his homeland fondly. Over the years of working with Rashid, you have learned a great deal about the culture and traditions of his home village. You learned how he and his family left Iraq years ago and immigrated to the United States and became citizens. It is an inspiring story of how good, honest, hardworking poor immigrants adopted and embraced the United States as their homeland and succeeded. Over the years while sharing with you bits and pieces of his family's story, Rashid has explained a lot about his Muslim religion, not in any effort to convert you, but because you expressed curiosity and he obliged. Along the way, you learned the differences between Sunni and Shiite religious sects. Today a new customer, Mr. Muhammed T'krit comes in with several prescriptions. Rashid greets the new customer with his normal and typical warmth. He reads the name of Mr. T'krit 67 Chapter 4: Ethics on the prescription and you observe him appear to be alarmed and become angry. Rashid calls out to Mr. T'krit using Arabic language. An energetic exchange between the two men begins. You don't understand Arabic, but you can tell by the volume and gestures that this is not a happy exchange. In fact, you can tell there is genuine anger between the two men. Rashid comes around the counter and stands toe to toe with Mr. T'krit, shouting angrily in Arabic. The shouting between the two men gets louder and you begin to wonder if it will come to a physical ght. You begin to come around the counter to try to calm things down when Rashid throws Mr. T'krit's prescriptions in his face and storms off. Mr. T'krit throws an obscene ges- ture back at Rashid, including what appears to be Arabic cursing, and storms out of the store. You and the rest of the store employees are totally shocked! Nothing like this has ever happened before. After a few moments of stunned silence, you follow Rashid into his ofce. \"What on Earth just happened out there, Rashid?\" Rashid is red in the face and actually trembling with anger. He takes a few deep breaths and asks you to sit down. Rashid tells you about a time in his home village in Iraq when an Iraqi soldier murdered his brother, in his own home, in front of his entire family. The soldier was looking for terrorists and thought Rashid's brother t the description of a terrorist. The soldier's family name was T'krit and was a member of the other Muslim sect, different from Rashid's family. Rashid said he was trying to nd out if Mr. T'krit was from his home village and when the answer was yes, Rashid accused Mr. T'krit's relative of the murder of his brother and the angry exchange grew from that. Still visibly angry, Rashid completed the discussion by saying he will never serve anyone from the other Muslim sect: \"They are all killers and rapists!\" The next day you ask to talk to Rashid privately in his ofce. You point out that Mr. T'krit should not have been treated that way. Ra shid angrily pushes back and tells you to not stick your nose in where it does not belong and orders you back to work
