Calculate the magnetic force on a charged particle, and use a right-hand rule to determine the direction of that force. Understand the path of a charged particle in a magnetic field. How is this different from the path of the same particle in a uniform electric field? Determine the Lorentz force acting on a charged particle in combined E and B fields. Understand the physics of some applications that combine E and B fields. (velocity selector, mass spectrometer, circular motion, cyclotron) Calculate the force acting on a current-carrying wire due to an external magnetic field. Understand the right hand rule that tells you the direccion of this force. Also know how to find the magnetic force on a wire by another wire, which is the extension of this in Ch. 30 Understand why a current loop can be treated as a magnetic dipole, and calculate the torque on such a dipole. Know that the Hall effect allows you to determine that it is really electrons that are flowing in conductors, not positive charges. (You do not need to do any calculations with the Hall effect)
