Think Like An Accountant Case Study Imagine you run your own small accounting firm and you cater to small businesses. One of your clients owns a retail store on Yonge Street in Toronto, ON and would like to expand the business and improve profits. Since you have been the accountant for over a decade, you have excellent knowledge of the firm's finances and they have come to you for your advice. Your task is to write a case study, similar to the ones you have read in this course. The case will be entirely fictional and you will make up the details and financial numbers. The case study will consist of the following information: Aftitle for the case study: the title can relate to the issue and you can wait until the end to create a suitable name. o One paragraph introducing your client and some background information: the name of the business, the product it sells, the type of business ownership and some information on the owner(s) of the business. A write-up explaining the situation. As a starting point, you can expand on the background information provided above (i.e. expanding the business, increase profits, etc.). The case study should consist of some kind of financial problem and will need to include the following information: o Internal control procedures (i.e. petty cash, cash control): include in your scenario an issue involving control procedures; o Financial ratios and decision making (e.g. liquidity, solvency, profitability ratios): you will need to make up financial figures here - no need to worry about being realistic! (hint: refer to Unit 4 for examples of ratios you can include); o An ethical issue or situation: this can relate to the internal control procedures or financial ratios. As with most cases, the reader is provided with guiding questions at the end to help solve the case. You will ask three questions which relate to the problem or issue in the case. You will provide your teacher with the solutions to the questions that you came up with. Examples of questions could be: What is your opinion about the financial health of this company? Can you make a recommendation on how to improve profitability or increase sales? How would you approach the ethical problem of \"x\"? Please ensure your case study is clear and professionally written (no slang, no grammatical or spelling errors). Checklist: v Did | meet all the criteria of the case? v Did | include at least one financial problem / issue (internal control, financial ratios, ethical issue). v Did I include three questions and solutions? v Is my case study free of grammar and spelling errors? v Does my case demonstrate critical thinking and inquiry
