Think of a position you currently have or had. Using the Expectancy Questionnaire, and the Analysis Form, rate each of the three areas on the dimension. For example, for item one think of the amount of self-esteem you receive in your position and rate (circle one number for each) how much is there now, how much should there be, and how important is this to you in this role. Please be sure to use the entire scale in rating (that is 1 is low and 7 is high). Circle one number for each of three items for each question.

Using the scoring sheet analysis, transfer the numbers from each item on to the sheet. Please note that section B is first (how much should there be), than A (how much is there) and section C is the very last column. Once you have the numbers transferred for each item than subtract B minus A for the Outcome Value/Difference and it can be zero, a negative number or positive number.

Now take a look at your analysis what are things that are lacking in your position (all positive differences between column B and A; what do you have more than enough of a negative difference).

  1. What are the surprises?
  2. Does this confirm your views of your position?
  3. How would you build in more outcomes that are of value to you?
