Research Paper: Thesis Statement and Outline Assignment Instruction
Overview
The thesis statement explains the position the paper will take in analyzing the topic. The outline provides you with the framework and an organizational structure for you to write a logical and coherent research paper. The outline also enables you to ensure the proper development of the thesis and supporting arguments that you are presenting in your research. The outline also enables you to make sure that you are covering all important aspects of your research.
Instructions
Choose 1 of the main topics covered in this course as the topic for your Research Paper. The paper must include the following:
- Analysis of legal doctrines regarding the topic
- Analysis of relevant cases related to the topic
- Suggestions of new norms and legal doctrines which can improve the effectiveness of the international normative regulation
- Biblical norms and ethical principles applicable to the topic
You will submit a Thesis Statement which must be no more than 2 sentences long and it must include the topic of the paper and the position you will take in the paper. You will submit an outline of the major points to be addressed in your paper. The outline must include the following:
- Headings that cover the major points in the thesis statement
- Must be at least 900 words
- Must use Bluebook format
Before submitting the Thesis Statement and Outline, review the Research Paper Thesis Statement and Outline Grading Rubric to verify that all components of the assignment have been completed.

Part B
Research Paper: Draft Assignment Instructions
Overview
The draft paper allows you to develop the main topics of your outline. It also helps you to show your main hypothesis that supports the thesis statement of your paper. It enables you to know which aspects of the paper require more work and which ones are redundant and can be taken out in the final paper. The draft should be qualitatively and quantitatively different from the final paper.
Instructions
You will submit a draft of your research paper that must include the following.
- Must be at least 3,000 words.
- Must include an introduction, and thesis statement that is no more than 2 sentences and is incorporated into the introduction, outline, main body, and conclusion.
- Must include a bibliography.
- Must have at least 15 citations
- Must be in the current Bluebook format.
Review the Research Paper: Draft Grading Rubric to verify that all components of the assignment have been completed before submitting your draft.
Part C
RESEARCH PAPER: FINAL ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS OVERVIEW The purpose of the final research paper is to demonstrate knowledge of the topics covered in the class and their application to the specific subject of your research paper. It enables you to demonstrate the originality of your research and its contributions to the field of study. INSTRUCTIONS Choose 1 of the main topics covered in this course as the topic for your Research Paper. The paper must include the following: Analysis of legal doctrines regarding the topic Analysis of relevant cases related to the topic Suggestions of new norms and legal doctrines which can improve the effectiveness of the international normative regulation Biblical norms and ethical principles applicable to the topic Must be at least 5,000 words (the word count includes the citations, but not the outline) Must have at least 25 citations Must be in Bluebook format Review the Research Paper: Final Grading Rubric to verify that all components of the assignments have been completed before submitting your final Research Paper. LL.M. students must add 2,500 words of writing to their final paper. This is a Pass/Fail component of this assignment. This is not required of the JM students.
