I am working as Aircraft Painter in XXX Airline. My job includes preparation of the aircraft surface for painting, removing old paint, and painting the aircraft. Usually, when I'm working company providesme with natural rubber latex gloves, however on 29 February 2024 we did not have any of these kinds of gloves left so I had to take some cotton gloves that most of the MCC workers are using. Besides that, I take respirator because vapors of MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone) are toxic as well as protective glasses. Usual hazards that I was aware of were itchiness, redness and rash for skin, and vapors may lead to drowsiness, nausea, headache, and confusion. I went outside to the aircraft after I have taken all the stuff needed stuff, paint remover chemicals, surface sanitizer, scrubs and some brushes to apply the paint. I must mention that it was a windy day. So right after I opened all chemicals wind blew so strong so the can of removing paint mixture splashed all over me. With dermatitis on my hands and legs, it became impossible for me to perform my job until I recover and my personal life was damaged too: my damaged skin is itching, and I experienced discomfort if any type of clothes touches my dermatitis parts. I can't really go outside so I must stay at home, apply gels, and take medications. More training and proper PPE would have helped me to prevent my injuries. I did not know that the risks and outcome dermatitis are so bad because I was never informed of those.
