This CIT Interview Techniques assignment includes two parts: a critical incident interview (due in Topic 7) and a summary report (due in Topic 8).
The first part are steps 1-3 in the CIT process, and the second part represents steps 4-5 in the CIT process.
To frame the context for this assignment, consider the following statement as the basis of the project: "There is evidence that researchers using CIT are now asking participants to reflect upon and write down the meaning of critical incidents, not just discuss them in a research interview" (Butterfield et al., 2005, p. 489).
Interview:
*Note*- Please remember interviewees should be reminded they have the right not to answer questions; further, there is an element of confidentiality that should be maintained. You may want to assure your interviewees you will not identify them by name or place of business in your writing.
- Using methodology described in the readings, gather a list of open-ended questions regarding an individual's direct personal experience with leaders. A minimum of 15 questions is required.
- Identify a subgroup of people in your immediate circle of contact with whom you have the ability to conduct a critical incident (CI) interview regarding their experience with leaders in their own lives.
- Conduct a minimum of three interviews. If you are unable to meet with your interviewee in person you may choose tocontactthem via voice or video call. However, you may not just send them the questions and ask them to fill them out, as thisremoves you fromthe process, and one of the points of this assignment is for you to gain experience in interviewing people.
- As the interviewer, pose the questions to the three respondent(s). Questions should include but are not limited to specific leadership moments, negative or positive experiences, leader decisions and consequences, or any line of inquirydrawn from course readings to this point.
Interview Summary:
- Submit a brief two hundred word summary of your interview findings. Remember you will give a more detailed, supported summary of your findings for the next assignment.
- State which three individuals you interviewed and why.
- Include the raw question and answer data (a minimum of 15 questions is required) in the form of at least three appendices (one for each interview, and in question-and-answer format), as one would provide in qualitative research.
