This is a project based on real data set \"Percentage of the Population 3 Years Old and Over Enrolled in School, by Age, Sex, Race, and Hispanic Origin: October 1947 to 2012\" that can be found in the le TableA2.rs in the Blackboard. I strongly recommend that you use MS-Excel, although you are allowed to use any statistical software of your choice. This is NOT a team project, and collaboration is not allowed. 0 Choose any age group, i.e. a column from DO, and x it throughout the project. 0 For all evaluations use only the data from 1985-2012. 0 Assume that all random variables are normally distributed (heroic assumption, but for the purpose of this project and this course this is ok). 0 Everywhere use level 0: = 0.05 for the condence intervals or hypothesis testing. 1) Find 95% condence interval of the mean for the following races, both sexes: Hispanic, White and Asian. Interpret the results. 2) Consider: the null hypothesis - the population means (true means) of female and male enrolled in school are equal; the alternative is that the means are not equal. Check this hypothesis for 'all races' and for 'Asians.' Interpret the results. O You have to submit the source le with all the evaluations by email to tbielecki@iit.edu. 0 You have also to submit the summary report on your ndings. It should contain: the methods you used, the formulas you used and why, the results obtained, and nally the interpretation of the results. Attach it to the same email, as a PDF le. In case it is not typed, you can submit the paper version of it during the class. 0 Hints for ms excel: use function AVERAGE to compute the sample mean; STDEV to compute the sample standard deviation. Excel has also build in functions for the inverse distributions (to nd the critical values) for most of the distributions - NORMSINV, TINV, CHIINV, FINV etc. Alternatively, you can use the numbers from the tables, especially since we have to use only couple of them. Also note that excel has the build in function CONFIDENCE, which will not be suitable for the project - the point is that it assumes that 0' is known. If you chose to use any other built in function (for nding the condence intervals, or checking the null), please explain why this function is suitable for our purposes. The submitted solutions should be your solutions and must not be copied from anyone else. Be sure to write your full name and class number on the rst page. Submitted hard copy assignments MUST be stapled
