This is a slippery slope and one that has been argued in many cases. Your research indicated that if your gun is in your personal vehicle that the personal vehicle can still be on the private property of an employer even though the law is behind the private property owner?

In South Carolina, parking lot laws related to firearms give business owners the right to prohibit or allow guns in the workplace. The law applies to company property, including parking lots and company vehicles. Personal vehicles are not considered a part of the workplace. Therefore, an employer may not prohibit an employee from keeping their firearm in their personal vehicle. The employer can still prohibit any gun from entering the parking lot and this may include a gun concealed inside an employee's car.

SECTION 23-31-215 of the South Carolina code of laws states that even if someone has a permit, the permit holder is not authorized to carry a concealable firearm into a hospital, medical clinic, doctor's office, or other places where medical care is provided, or any federal building (South Carolina Legislative Services Agency, n.d.). Generic Hospital prohibits employees from carrying firearms on any of its property. Therefore, it would be unlawful for me, as an employee of the hospital to carry a weapon to the parking lot. According to South Carolina laws and regulations, business owners including Generic Hospital, have the right to prohibit or allow guns in the workplace or on their properties including parking lots and company vehicles.
