Exercise - Personal & Professional Code Ethics Evaluation.
Goal: An important purpose of this course is to enable you to develop analysis skills to make decisions on ethical issues that may arise related to computer systems that you may develop and implement in the future. An effective way to do that is to analyze hypothetical situations or real scenarios that present ethical case studies.
Assignment: Produce a PowerPoint presentation with a minimum of 10 PowerPoint pages and a minimum of 500 words. For this presentation you should suggest an ethical scenario that is rich, viable, and feasible for solving ethical problems (a hypothetical one or a real one.......like your boss asks you to change the system to create more revenue in the near term but, it will cause the system to fail in the long run) to evaluate in three parts:
1) PERSONAL ETHICS: Analyze the scenario with regards to YOUR personal ethics. To do this you have to identify all of the stakeholders in the scenario, all of the actions that were taken, and all of the alternative actions that could have been taken. You are to state your reactions to the actions and decisions of the people in the scenario based upon your personal ethical framework. You are not graded upon your values, but upon how well you can state them to argue a position related to the scenario.
2) PROFESSIONAL ETHICS. Pick a professional organization related to this scenarios computer ethics issue(s). Then analyze the stakeholder's reactions and how they compare to what a specific professional organizations reaction would be given their professional ethic rules. Societies like AITP, IEEE and ACM should be considered and who you choose should be specifically listed. Also, you need to specifically list the rule(s) given by the professional organization that dictates how they would respond.
3) COMPARE: Finally, compare how your personal response is different to the professional societies or how it is the same. Give reasons WHY your opinion is the same or different.
