THIS IS ALL THERE IS WHAT MORE DO I PROVIDE??

In this assignment, we are going to design a campus network. Delta Community College (DCC) is a small college. It is attended by 900 full and part-time students. There are three dormitories for the students; each dorm can accommodate 200 students.

Distance from the college campus to the dorms are:

  • Dorm1 <---> College Campus = 200m
  • Dorm2 <---> College Campus = 5KM
  • Dorm3 <---> College Campus = 15KM

There are 3 departments in the college:

  • Arts and Humanities
  • Business
  • Social Sciences

Each department has an average of 300 students and an average of 20 professors. Approximately 30 administrative personnel work in the college. Everyone in the college should get access to the network. Students in the dormitory should also get access to the college network. The number of students is expected to be doubled in the next 6 years. The number of faculty and administrative staff is expected to increase at the same rate as the number of students. The college doesn't plan to increase the capacity of the dorm in the next 6 years. We need to design a computer network so that it can support the college network for the next 6 years. Consider the following in your design and answer the following three questions.

  1. Each department and dormitory should be put on its own subnet. When you design the subnets, make sure your design supports the following:
  2. 3 subnets for 3 dorms: each should support 200 hosts (as there is no growth for the dorms)
  3. 3 subnets for 3 departments. Each subnet should be capable of accommodating the expected number of students in 6 years.
  4. The professors from all the departments should be put in one separate subnet, and the design should include the expected growth in the next 6 years.
  5. A subnet for the administrative department that can support the hosts needed for the administrative staff. It should also consider the expected growth in the number of staff.

Your task is to subnet the whole network wasting the least number of IP addresses.Here, you need to use the VLSM method. Here is a tutorial on VLSM:

https://www.comparitech.com/net-admin/variable-length-subnet-mask-vlsm-tutorial/

First, in the planning phase for subnetting, you need to identify the required number of hosts for each subnet (while determining, please consider the growth rate in 6 years for some of the subnets). Now complete the following table in terms of required number of hosts for each of the subnets:

Name of the Subnet Required number of hosts in 6 Years
Dorm1 (D1)
Dorm2 (D2)
Dorm3 (D3)
Arts and Humanities Department (Dept1)
Business Department (Dept2)
Social Sciences Department (Dept3)
Professors from all departments (Professor)
Administrative staff (Admin)

The network admin asks you to design the subnets using IP address space 10.4.16.0/20. So, do you think you can design all the necessary subnets with at least the required number of hosts using the given address?

  • If no, then change the CIDR from /20 to another number to accommodate all the subnets.

Support your reason for choosing yes/no with calculations.

Now, design the subnets by showing the subnet names, network address, subnet mask, and the IP address range for each subnet. To answer, please complete the following table (You have to follow the CIDR format (a.b.c.d/x) when mentioning any IP addresses other than the subnet mask):

Subnet Network ID CIDR Subnet Mask First Usable IP Last Usable IP Broadcast Address

  1. Apply a hierarchical approach to design this network and draw a network diagram showing the subnets and connections among the subnets with the connectivity devices. Use appropriate devices for connectivity. Your network diagram should show:
  2. Core Layer
  3. Distribution Layer
  4. Access Layer

To draw the diagram, use the following tool or any other tool:
