This is an English 101 class requirement. My professor is a real piece of work and is very demanding. If he suspects that I cheated, he will fail me immediately. The assignment must here's a Summary of the Requirements • 1500-2000 words of text (the body of the essay, not including the title, your name, or the Works Cited page) • Proper MLA format is expected, including proper use of in-text citations and a Works Cited page. • Use of at least three outside sources. You can use more than three sources if you wish. • Use of first person, second person, and contractions are not generally acceptable in academic writing. Avoid them. You will lose three points for each one that I find. • Correct essay format (see the Paper Format link on the Modules page). Expect a one letter grade penalty for incorrect essay format. • Essays which do not meet the minimum requirements as stated above (length, number of sources, topic) will receive a zero (even if you are one word short). I know that this sounds harsh, but the requirements listed above are the minimum expectations and must be met. • HINT: as stated in the rubric, “A and B-level” essays exceed the minimum requirements. An essay of 1500 words, for example, meets the minimum expectation, but does not exceed it. If you want a better grade, show the effort and turn in an 3000-word essay instead of a 2000 word one. Assumptions • I assume that you have read through the course rubric and understand it. • I assume that you have read all of the course materials to date, including readings listed on the course syllabus and anything posted on the modules page, like sample papers and “Common Paper Errors.” • I assume that you have read through my comments on your previous essays and understand any errors or corrections. I further assume that if you did not understand something, you asked me about it. • It is also assumed that you that because you are in English 101, you have a reasonable grasp of basic writing issues. You should have no difficulty with Standard American English. You should be able to write a thesis statement, to develop a multi-paragraph essay, and to do so with a minimum of grammar and punctuation errors.
