This is an individual task

You are an intern with Nav Professional Services and have been placed with a company as an IT, Engineering or Accounting professional. You are about to discuss what you will be doing in a meeting with your boss.

The marketplace has changed. Change is happening in an accelerating basis.Staff need to quickly form close knit and effective teams. Business demands that staff have good strong relationships with each other, within their team and in their external work teams in their company.

You are in your boss's office - you are being briefed on your next assignment.

He'd been talking about his concerns that staff were getting comfortable with spending time with the people they know and weren't getting to know other members of the team. Little comfortable social groups had formed and people were working in their comfort zones.

He explained openly:

"Things just don't work like this. When people are in their comfort zones, they don't innovate, they don't think properly and they no longer take risks." He said regretfully. "And that is not good enough in these times"

He paused.

"We are going to launch a new program; 'Strong Relationships, Strong Teams!' and I'd like you to create a Google Slide presentation on networking within your company."

"Wow!" You thought. This was interesting. You started to take notes

"This is what we want you to do:"he continued, Create Google Slides that cover the following:

  • Describe three areas of networking and relationship building within the workplace:
  1. taking people out for coffee
  2. taking people out for lunch
  3. spending time at the pub after work on Friday.
  • For each area:
  1. talk about the reasons people avoid doing the activity and stay in their comfort zone
  2. Discuss what it takes to get out of your comfort zone
  3. Discuss the benefits of getting out of your comfort zone in each area
  • Describe the ways you build relationships and bond with your teammates

"Do you think you can do that by the end of the day?" He asked bluntly.

"Of course"You reply, "It would be my pleasure to put this together for you."

Now it's off to work!
