Would You Grant Parole? Read the following scenario and answer the questions that follow. [6 marks] Joe grew up in a dysfunctional home where alcoholism was common. As an adult, he had difficulty dealing with his problems and often got into trouble. He was arrested several times for stealing cars and driving recklessly. One night, while driving with a suspended licence and being pursued by police, Joe struck and killed a pedestrian. Joe was convicted of dangerous operations of a motor vehicle and sent to prison for 4 years. While in prison, Joe is attending a mandatory substance abuse program. He is also seeing a psychologist to help him work through his childhood problems. His uncle has offered him future employment in his radiator repair shop. Joe has already served 18 months. 1. Would you grant or deny parole to Joe? a) Indicate the reasons for your decision. If you grant parole, what type of conditional release would you recommend? b) Justify your decision on the basis of the risk assessment factors
