Their manager decided to reward them with points if they worked harder. This was not a negative incentive because they were offered a reward, not an undesirable consequence. The manager's approach was also straightforward and the employers knew precisely what they were getting and what they had to do to get it.

Employers use incentives as ways to motivate their employees and increase their productivity. One of the most common examples of an incentive is bonuses. Bonuses encourage employees to work harder and motivate them to get better results. Another common incentive is offering promotions for extra hard workers. Promotions are something that causes employees to try to exceed expectations. Promotions are a very good positive incentive because there is not just one benefit to a promotion. Some employers also use non-monetary incentives, such as offering extra time off, flexible schedules, or the opportunity to work on interesting projects. There are many ways employers can use incentives to improve productivity in employees and not all of these incentives are positive. A negative incentive could be the threat of getting fired for not being productive.
